Pore Clogging Ingredients
Curious about what may be making your breakouts worse? Here are some top things you should be concerned about when it comes to clearing up your breakouts?
Always check the ingredient list in all your hair or skin products before applying them, even if it says "won't clog pores " or "noncomedogenic" on the container. There are no government agencies that regulate this. Companies can make claims without really knowing what is true or not.
Please Note: Popular olis such as coconut oil or cocoa butter are often top offenders in clogging pores.
Other oils such as lanolin, olive or jojoba are only mildly pore clogging. It is often more of a problem when they are mixed with other comedogenic ingredients listed below.
Many prescriptions that are actually supposed to help acne often contain these ingredients and are counter productive. The common Retin-A cream that is prescribed contains isopropyl myristate which is highly aggressive in clogging pores.
Just because it says "oil free" doesn't mean it won't break you out.
Makeup
The best makeup is one that does not contain comedogenic ingredients. Loose powder, mineral make-up tends to be the safest choice but still should be checked. We formulate our own minerals at Vanilla Sugar Face & Body that contain no pore-clogging ingredients.
We also don't recommend any pressed powders for the face that are often found at the health food store that have "organic oils" as ingredients. Stick with the loose minerals and read the ingredients first.
